O’Neale Atkinson - Director of Youth Programs and Services 

O'Neale Atkinson, a native of South Carolina, moved to Charlotte in June of 2011. Since moving to Charlotte, O’Neale has worked with The LGBT Community Center of Charlotte and Q-Notes. O'Neale received his Master ofSocial Work degree from the University of South Carolina and has worked with other non-profit and community organizations, including Protection & Advocacy for People with Disabilities, Inc., the AARP-SC and University of South Carolina's Office of Supportive Housing Services.



Bahtyah Benyahmeen - Program Assistant

Bahtyah Benyahmeen is what Carolinians call a half back as she was born in Bronx, NY, grew up in central Florida and then moved half way back to New York landing her in the Queen City! Bahtyah is a qualified mental health professional who earned her BA in criminology from the University of South Florida. Bahtyah has over 8 years experience in ballet, modern and jazz dance and over 16 years experience in African dance. She has performed at NBA games and on television programs for both Disney and Nickelodeon.



Shakira Clarke - Asst. Director of Youth Programs and Services

Shakira Clarke is a native of Toronto, Ontario. Shakira received her Bachelors of Social Work from Johnson C. Smith University.  Shakira was member of the 2010 CIAA Women’s basketball championship team and of the Phi Alpha Social Work national honor society at Johnson C. Smith. Shakira has a passion for sports, LGBTQ youth, housing and helping youth find healthy relationships. 




Trey Greene - Counselor

Trey Greene is a transgender man and social worker who is passionate about supporting individuals who are struggling because of their identity, experiences, or beliefs. Trey is the co-founder of Transcend Charlotte, which serves transgender adults in Charlotte and the surrounding region. Along with specializing in issues related to gender, Trey is a clinician and educator on trauma prevention and recovery, with a special focus on trauma associated with sexual assault. He practices from a trauma informed, person-centered, and empowerment-based framework. He is a proud introvert, hardcore gamer, and loves his evil cat, Gabriel.



Rebby Kern - Asst. Director of School Outreach

Rebby has served in the Charlotte community for over 3 years since relocating from California. Rebby has previously served as the Media, Communications and Programs manager at Campus Pride, Director of Youth Interests for Seventh-day Adventist Kinship International, and is the co-founder of the Intercollegiate Adventist GSA Coalition (IAGC). Rebby is an alumna of OutSet, the LGBTQ youth filmmakers program of Outfest and LA Lifeworks. Rebby is a graduate of La Sierra University in Riverside, CA where she holds a degree in communications.



Gwen Pearson

Gwen Pearson - Office Administrator

Gwen Pearson has worked as a Human Resources Executive for over 17 years, and has extensive experience in conflict management, team relations, and succession planning. A native of Virginia Beach, VA, she has received her Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry from VCU in Richmond, VA and a second Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Human Resources Counseling from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. She is the Publisher of Visit Gay Charlotte, the Children’s Book Advisor for Playing For Others, the Secretary for Charlotte Pride, and a part of the membership committee for the Charlotte Business Guild.  



James Rice III

James Rice III - Programs Assistant

James Rice III is a 2010 graduate of Queens University of Charlotte. He holds his B.A. in Communications and is currently pursing starting his own media production company. James has a passion for queer youth and one day hopes to operate a home for homeless and disenfranchised LGBT youth. When he's not spending time with TOY Youth you can find him Segway-ing through Charlotte in his other role as a Segway tour guide. 


Todd Rosendahl

Todd Rosendahl - Director of Youth Policy

Dr. Todd Rosendahl holds the joint position of Director of Youth Policy with Equality NC and Time Out Youth Center that is partially funded by Bank of America. Todd works with K-12 school districts and youth serving agencies across North Carolina providing professional development for school staff, GSA support for middle/high school students, and policy/regulation guidance to better support LGBTQ students. He leads Time Out Youth Center’s school outreach services for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, including implementation of the Welcoming Schools program. Todd holds a Bachelor’s degree and K-12 teaching certification from the University of Iowa and a Master’s degree and Ph.D. from Florida State University.



Rodney Tucker

Rodney Tucker - Executive Director

Rodney is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, and is a goal-oriented professional with over 20 years of non-profit management experience at local and national levels focused on fundraising, strategic and financial planning, coalition building, and advocacy. He has a BA in Human Services from UNC-Charlotte, MA in Christian Education from Southern Theological Seminary, and an MA in Counseling from UNC-Charlotte.
