Legacy and Planned Giving FAQ

Got questions about planned giving at Time Out Youth? We’re here to help you leave a legacy that empowers LGBTQ+ youth for generations.

1. What is planned giving at Time Out Youth?

Planned giving means making a gift that usually takes some advance thought and planning—like including TOY in your will, naming us as a beneficiary on your retirement account, or other options that make a lasting impact long after today.

2. Do I need to be wealthy to make a planned gift?

Absolutely not. Legacy gifts come in all sizes. Even a small percentage of a retirement account or a modest bequest can help keep our doors open and our programs thriving. Every gift counts and makes a difference.

3. I already give annually. Why consider a legacy gift too?

Your ongoing support fuels TOY’s programs now. A legacy gift helps ensure those programs exist for years to come, no matter what. Together, your gifts create a safety net for future LGBTQ+ youth.

4. How do I add Time Out Youth to my will?

You can ask your attorney to include simple language like:
“I give % of my estate (or $) to Time Out Youth, Inc., a North Carolina nonprofit (EIN 56-1755564), for its general purposes.”

5. Are there tax benefits to planned giving?

Yes! Many planned gifts reduce estate taxes, and retirement assets left to TOY avoid income taxes that would otherwise apply. We always recommend chatting with your financial or legal advisor to understand what’s best for you.

6. Can I direct my gift to a specific TOY program?

Yes! Whether it’s counseling, housing, community training, or general support, we honor your wishes when you let us know.

7. What information do I need to provide when naming TOY as a beneficiary?

Use our official details to ensure your gift reaches us correctly:

  • Legal Name: Time Out Youth, Inc.
  • Address: 3800 Monroe Rd., Charlotte, NC 28205
  • EIN: 56-1755564

8. Can I change my planned gift if my circumstances change?

Most planned gifts like bequests and beneficiary designations are revocable. You can update them anytime to reflect your current wishes.

9. Should I tell Time Out Youth if I’ve included you in my plans?

You don’t have to, but if you do, we’d love to welcome you to our Chosen Family Circle, a special community honoring our legacy donors. Plus, it helps us make sure your gift is handled exactly as you intend.
